‘Dirty Dancing’ will likely always be considered one of the greatest movies of all time, maintaining its status as a beloved film in its genre.

Patrick Swayze, who has since passed away, soared to new heights of fame due to his role, while his co-star Jennifer Grey remains dedicated to preserving the legacy he left behind with the movie.

The name Jennifer Grey is familiar to millions worldwide, having gained popularity for her portrayal of “Baby” in the 1987 romantic drama ‘Dirty Dancing’. Since then, she has garnered thousands of fans and well-wishers.

The film is set at a vacation resort where Frances “Baby” and her family are staying, showcasing the love affair between a rebellious dance instructor played by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey’s character, ‘Baby’.

The movie has achieved cult classic status, with many fans eagerly anticipating a sequel. However, Grey has expressed doubts about the possibility of a sequel, stating, “…really, what I’m doing, my whole job with this, is to get it right, get it really right, in Patrick’s honor, in honor of all of the fans’ relationship with the movie.” Jennifer continued, “If you’re going to do that movie again, it has to be right.”

In later interviews, Grey revealed insights about the filming period, mentioning that while she and Swayze didn’t have chemistry, their bodies “really liked each other.”

In April 2022, during a Cinemacon presentation, Lionsgate announced that a ‘Dirty Dancing’ sequel was in development.

Following the announcement, Grey shared additional details about the sequel on The Drew Barrymore Show, mentioning that it will feature sex, music, and, of course, dancing.

In another interview, Grey emphasized her refusal to be involved in the sequel “unless it’s perfect.” She also disclosed that some original cast members would appear in the film. “Baby’s quite a few years older. You will see other characters that are from the original,” Grey said.

Grey clarified that there are no plans to introduce another actor to play Johnny Castle. “What happened happened, and that will never happen again. There will never be another Johnny. There will never be another Patrick,” she said, adding, “This sequel has to stand on its own. It’s very tricky.”

Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009 at the age of 57 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 20 months prior. Grey and Swayze famously had differences, and after his death, she candidly discussed their relationship in her autobiography, ‘Out Of The Corner’.

She expressed remorse for not fully appreciating him during their time together, writing, “I’m so sorry that I couldn’t just appreciate and luxuriate in who you were, instead of me wishing you were more like what I wanted you to be.”
